What Is Iced Out?

Iced Out is an interesting term can be traced back before the late 90s when we started selling iced out watches. The term is basically referring the the fact that diamonds resemble in appearance to actual ice. Then slang is brought in indicating that some is completely coved with diamonds or simulated diamonds. Thus, you get the two together "iced out".

Even the term crushed ice has come into play and this indicates jewelry such as a watch or jewelry pendant have diamond pieces in it. This is different that have completed and symmetrically cut. The crushed ice is usually what you get left over from cutting larger diamonds. Now, this is a lot less money and can be used on a wider scale relatively cheap compared to completed cut and polished diamonds. This come in to play and is often used on watch faces. This way you can have a watch face completely iced out with crushed diamonds at a fraction of the cost. A face of the watch is a good place to do this as you can do this without settings and is under a protective glass. So, now you have diamond volume and cheaper prices.

In recent times many people have somewhat halted on their purchasing of real diamonds and have went to simulated diamonds. This has been a trend that has coming for quite some time and almost seems somewhat full blown in mid 2011 when this article is being written. Many factors have affected the iced out jewelry market. One of the factors today is the quality of the simulated ice that is being made is nearly impossible if not completely impossible to tell the difference with the naked eye. This is great because years ago there was a huge difference between the two. Now, if you can't tell the difference between $80,000.00 and a $200.00 high quality simulated diamond watch it makes it harder and less fulfilling to spend the $80,000.00 even if you have the money to spend.

So, we look to see a merging of the two as quality goes up and as people look more for quality and price and not just quality. The term iced out will still be used and it will probably get to the point were only you or your jeweler will know the difference on the higher quality jewelry pieces. In fact we ourselves our working on making many of the higher-end pieces to attract some of the business from the diamond market.
